The place of birth of Ellen Kathleen Pompeo was Everett, Massachusetts. Her parents are Kathleen B and Joseph E. Pompeo, who was a salesman by profession. Hermom passed when she was aged just 4 years. She has Italian, Irish, and also some English lineage. She got her Italian lineage from paternal grandpa.
Adolescence and first step towards acting
Pompeo was born on the 10th of November of 1969. She was brought up as a Roman Catholic. In 2006, Ellen had stated to Allure that her mother’s passing away at the early age of 33 years increased her appreciation for life. At a time Pompeo started working as a bartender in Miami. During this time he began dating Andrew Rosenthal, a fashion photographer. Both of them relocated to NY, USA in 1995. While there, a casting director approached her for appearing in commercials L’Oreal and for Citibank.

Pompeo’s key studio screen debut was in Moonlight Mile of Brad Silberling in 2002. In the movie, her co-stars were Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Pompeo was given wonderful reviews for her depiction of a blunt young lady who was burdened with something that was breaking her heart.
She was cast with Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, and Will Ferrell in Old School 2003 that went on to be a great success. Prior to this she had acted in Catch Me If You Can, where her co-star was Leonardo DiCaprio.
She has also starred in a number of independent releases, which include “Coming Soon” and “In the Weeds” in 1999 and 2000 respectively, and “Life of the Party” in 2005.
From 2005, she’s been enacting the character of Dr. Meredith Grey in Grey’s Anatomy, the television series.
